The hero Jack Bauer is giving one of his cohorts--Bill, I think--a pep talk so he can go torture somebody.

Apparently, not actually being willing to shock someone with so much electricity that they bleed from the ears and are at risk of being paralyzed is not only weak, but un-American.

Um.

Things that make me wish I still had my own study, instead of the house having a guest room. (By which I mean that I had somewhere else I could hide when my darling husband watches shows like this, instead of the bedroom.)

more than you wanted to know

True, only a geek would get all huffy about the distinction between these terms. :D

http://helloquizzy.okcupid.com/tests/the-nerd-geek-or-dork-test

I scored 96% Nerd, 59% Geek, and 39% Dork.

I actually think I need a separate building. I don't know that a rec room would cut it. It's too close. :D I love to socialize with people. I love to be around people, but I can only stand to be around other people if I have regular doses of my own private space and time, too. I'm really weird about it. I like keeping touch with people online because I can decide when to reply. Phone calls and people stopping by can feel like an invasion, if my mood is just right. I know I don't have to pick up the phone, but it is ringing, for real. There's really someone on the other end. I usually leave my ringer off.

I don't think I was always quite this bad, but I've been flying solo for the last few years and while it overall has been good for me, I think it has warped me a bit.

I don't think most people sense this about me. I pull off well-adjusted quite well, but yeah, I'm a bit nutty.

Apparently a nerd would know the distinction between those terms. ::g:: But I was right in that I'm not a dork. :D

I am a COOL NERD. (65%) That's right, baby! I have a lifelong passion for learning and being smart, which slightly edged out being passionate about some particular area or subject (61%), which would make me a Geek. Which might be certain fandoms, but I'm not saying anything.

I actually hear you about the privacy thing. My way to cope with the occasionally desperate need to be alone is to stay up much later than my son or husband. My bliss is in the cool night hours when I can be alone with my thoughts and lovely, lovely computer.

I can also pass for normal if I try hard enough. I hardly ever quote from movies or television for example. Really. :)

A nerd would know, but a PURE NERD, such as myself has more worthy conundrums to consider than such trifling distinctions as these. ;)

Okay, maybe you don't quote from movies or tv, instead you just rewrite them. :P

Pure Nerd, wow. I bow to your intellectual awesomeness. And then offer to tuck in your shirt.

You are probably lucky in truth that you never got into fanfiction (it can be a huge time-killer), but honestly, the cultures and sub-cultures, jargon and tropes that abound in the fandom communities online are astounding, fantastic and endlessly fascinating. If I were ever to actually do a Masters, I'd want to write my thesis on some aspect of such online communities.
