Hey, everyone!

Here I am at the Romantic Times Booklovers Convention in Las Vegas, and I haven't been outside since Sunday evening! I'm anticipating returning to Texas exhausted, pale and squinting. It'll be great.

While I'm here, Dreamspinner Press has been selling Aiden's Angel for $1.00. (Here it is on Amazon.) I volunteered for this in the hopes it might mean that people would actually know the book existed.

Apparently it worked, because I just got an email from All Romance EBooks saying it hit their bestseller's list. :D I am very, very happy.

It'll be on sale until sometime on the 17th, in case any of you would like to read about magic, angst and angels for less than a cup of Starbucks coffee to go with it.

I'll be back online for reals starting Monday. Right now I need to eat something before the next event. I'm thinking a ridiculous Las Vegas buffet might be in order.

As you all know, I had a new fantasy book out in November. I posted about it here, with a lovely cover image and the book description. Please do take a moment to check it out if you haven't seen it yet, just because the rest of this will be more relevant if you do. And probably funnier. :) I'll wait.

So far, I've had some terrific reviews and ratings on Goodreads.com, and two excellent reviews on Amazon.com. And then I got these: Cut for length and O.o )

Yes indeed! Because it's Black Friday, my publishing company is offering everything in the story for 30% off, and some eBooks are free!

My eBooks aren't free this time around, but Unspeakable Words by Sarah Madison ([livejournal.com profile] sgamadison) is! It's the first book in a series about two FBI agents who try to navigate their burgeoning (and tumultuous) relationship while trying to solve a crime that ends up changing their lives in one of the worst ways imaginable--by giving one of them super powers.

It's a really fun book that reminded me of excellent fanfiction (which you all know is a compliment!) I loved the characters and especially how Madison described the new abilities. And it's free! So you should download it!

And get my books too, because they're 30% off! Here is a convenient link. :D

I hope you are all having a wonderful day! I should probably change out of my pajamas.

Whoop! There it is!

I'm also running a contest over at Tumblr, for those who may be interested. :D

Thank you kindly for your time and attention. I'm going to go back to making quiet dolphin noises now.

Earlier this evening my son was looking at my author's copies of my published work, and asked why most of the short stories were under my real name, but some stories and both novels were by Aundrea Singer.

I explained about pen names, and how I started using the pen name for the gay romances I wrote because I was worried our conservative, fundamentalist neighbors wouldn't let their children play with him anymore if they knew about them. I used the example of this dickwad to remind him that this is how a hell of a lot of people think where we live.

My kid shuddered at the memory of the bigoted dickwad, then said, "I have a suggestion. We take your books to that guy, and do this...."

I thought he was going to mime giving the books to him, and was about to explain why it was a sweet idea but wouldn't make any difference.

My kid actually mimed using the books to hit the bigot over the head.

I love my kid.

The paper says "I wrote this". He thought it was hilarious.

BloodMagic3

The beautiful cover by Anne Cain for Blood for Magic, coming out in November-December from Dreamspinner Press.

Twenty-year-old Tarquin is smart, tactless, and braver than he knows. He’s also been Mage of the Realm of Kelor for two years, taking the title from his mother after she died protecting Kelor from a terrible threat. While on a quest to heal his dying brother, Tarquin is attacked by a horrific, flesh-eating monster. He’s saved by an enigmatic and mute young soldier, cursed with a terrifying form that conceals the heart of a knight. There’s an almost instant attraction between the two men, but no time to explore it. The monster’s attack is the harbinger of a new invasion.

With Kelor helpless, the realm’s only hope lies with Tarquin. As Mage of the Realm, he alone can sacrifice himself the way his mother did in exchange for unimaginably powerful magic. He’s prepared to give up his life to defeat the coming evil, but before the battle is over, he’ll be faced not just with his own death, but the death of everyone he cares about. Including the monster he's come to love.

Tomorrow evening, my dear Flisties, you'll be able to find me staging a Twitter Takeover with my good buddy and partner in crime [livejournal.com profile] sgamadison. We'll be using the @dreamspinners account between 7 and 9 pm Eastern time (That's 6 and 8 Central). We'll be answering questions and discussing our books, and I'd love to see some of you there. :D

The other animals are were-dinosaurs. Specifically, seven lines of my current WIP novel, which I've lovingly given the working title of 'Gay Were-Dinosaurs of the Pseudo Amish Apocalypse'. I was tagged by [livejournal.com profile] brumeier, to take seven lines from the seventh page of a current WIP. So here ya go, a perfect two paragraphs:

The other end of the chain on the crazy hybrid's ankle was attached to one of the exposed metal supports in the crumbling concrete wall that surrounded the village. The enclosure for the hybrids used the wall as one side. The rest of the rectangle was made of nothing sturdier than thick pieces of wood. The fact that the two unchained hybrids hadn't leapt over the fence or broken it down and slaughtered every single person in the village was only because they were too weak to do it.

Kai sneered in disgust and allowed himself the soft growl that wanted to escape from his throat. He'd be the first to agree that the hybrids were horrifically destructive and the most dangerous land-animal on what was left of the planet, but they didn't deserve to be treated like this. This was torture by neglect.

And I'm tagging seven more:

[livejournal.com profile] selenic76 came up with this:

Want to dip your toe in a new fandom? Have a hidden desire to try out a new pairing? Or maybe you're dreaming about writing that first fanfic or original story? Why not take part in the low stress, deadline and wordcount free Writerly Summer Fling, and take that first step in making it happen! Click the pic to learn more on what the Fling is about, and how to join in on the fun ^_^

It's no-pressure and Selenic is a sweetheart, so there is no reason at all not to participate if you've been wanting to get a bit more (or any) writing done. I've got my Gay Were-Dinosaurs of the Pseudo-Amish Apocalypse novel(la) as well as three Stucky fanfics I'd like to finish, and between this and [livejournal.com profile] ushobwri I figure I should get something banged out. And with my DH's broken arm stressing me out like a stressing-out thing, I figure I could use all the stress-free encouragement I can get.

I'm also not likely to get to a beach anytime soon, alas. So at least I can look at the lovely back of the model water in the picture. Because, y'know, it's inspiring. And I'm all about the inspiration, really. :)

Wow, posting twice in one week! Luckily it's not actually the apocalypse.

Aiden's Angel is now available from Dreamspinner Press and Amazon.com. Dreamspinner will have an excerpt soon, but you can use the 'look inside' function for Amazon and read the first chapter and part of the second, in case you'd like to check it out. Which you totally would, because I'm awesome.

Now, I'm a bit late with my stupidly easy contest because my husband broke his arm and things have been hectic and horrible because of it for a good while and I was barely online. But I'm going to remedy that right now!
He could've used one, come to think.
TOTALLY RELEVANT ANGEL PICTURE

And like I said, stupidly easy--The first four people to comment with their email addresses will get a PDF version of the novella. Just make sure you alter the email a little so you won't attract cooties bots. Such as:

awesome.person AT awesomemail DOT com.

There you go! Stupid easy, right?

Hopefully I'll get more than four comments.

taste_is_sweet: (That's me baby)
You may have noticed that I haven't been around much lately. The major reason for my prolonged absences is basically that I suck.

I actually had intended to remedy this around the beginning of May, while Dom (that's my husband) and I were in Montreal. We went to Montreal because Dom had won a prestigious award from his old high school. He was really looking forward to getting it--more even than pretty much any other award he's ever won.
Owie.
Definitely didn't tickle

So naturally, five minutes before he was set to go to the reception, he fell and broke his upper right arm. (I'm not even kidding; he was about to put on his tie.) A Proximal Humerus Fracture means a break just under the shoulder joint. Not to put too fine a point on it, it fucking sucks. What sucks even harder is that my husband is disabled, and without his right arm his mobility's been reduced to just about zero. He's slowly getting better, but he needs a lot more help than normal. It's made it hard to think about anything else, like updating my live journal.

But! He is getting better. His arm is slowly healing and I'm not quite as stressed to the gills, which means I can think about other stuff--like updating my live journal. And I actually have cool news with which to update.

My novella Aiden's Angel is coming out this Wednesday (and still available for pre-order). You can read the cover blurb here.

And...that's it, thank you. :)

Starting today and for the next 12 days, there will be a charity giveaway from 224 authors, review bloggers and publishers, to reward anyone donating at least $5.00 to a LGBT charity of your choice.

You can access the giveaway and links to charities via this post at Diverse Reader. There's a short story in italics at the beginning, with the full information at the end of how to sign up, as well as a video showcasing the people and publishers donating books. I wanted to donate a book myself, but I only found out about it on April 10, when the call for book donations had closed, alas. But I'm going to give $10.00 to #Pizza4Equality after I finish posting this.

You may be asking, 'Why pizza, Sweet?' And Best-Beloveds, I shall tell you.

Memories Pizza sells pizza in Walkerton, Indiana. Indiana, of course, has been in the news lately because of Governor Mike Pence signing the Religious Freedom Restoration Act on March 26, which was widely criticized as allowing any business to refuse to serve anyone whose existence they deemed contrary to their religious beliefs. Specifically, members of the LGBT community.

Memories Pizza became a poster child for exactly what liberals feared, when one of the owners stated that if asked, she'd refuse to cater a same-sex wedding.

Now to be fair, no one had asked. And at least according to this article, Memories Pizza has never turned away a gay customer. However, the statement infuriated so many people that the Pizzeria ended up closing under the media storm and barrage of negative comments. Whereupon TV host Dana Loesch of the extreme conservative network The Blaze started a GoFundMe campaign to raise money for the embattled restaurant. (Do yourself a favor--don't read the comments on that link.)

And they got nearly a million dollars in two days.

So, enter #PizzaforEquality, started by Scott Wooledge, with the idea that maybe that much money could be raised to fund charities protecting LGBT people and their rights, rather than to fund those places who would deny them. It's been a good start, but it's been more than two days and the campaign closes on April 29, so I thought I'd boost the signal. And get a book. Because books are awesome.

So is pizza! But only if you're willing to share.
taste_is_sweet: (Aiden's Angel)
And here it is!

I love that moment when the cover image is finalized and you've had the publisher's blessing to show it to people, because now it means that everything's finished and the book is a truly real. Aiden's Angel will come out some time in May, probably closer to the middle of the month, to coincide with my attending the Romantic Times Booklovers Convention.

Aiden's_Angel_Final Small

Aiden's Angel is a novella, which makes it shorter than some of my fanfic. Hilariously (or ironically? Alannis?) it's almost exactly half as long as Black Hawk Tattoo. The drawback is that AA won't be available in hardcover, but the pluses are that it'll be less expensive and faster to read.

I'll have my usual stupidly easy contest as soon as the book is available for pre-order. In the meantime, here's Dreamspinner's official blurb:

Aiden Lobo is a graduate student in a world where magic, gods, and demons are part of everyday life. After a terrible betrayal, he is cursed with a Crack in his heart, turning him into a living doorway for an ancient demon of war to come to Earth and kill millions. Aiden is rescued by his guardian angel, who seals the Crack with his own Light. As a servant of the divine, the nameless angel was supposed to kill Aiden to prevent the growing cataclysm inside him. But he loves Aiden too much to end his life, even to save the world.

Aiden falls for his guardian and names him Eskandar, but then learns to his horror that because Eskandar was created for him, when Aiden dies Eskandar will too. Aiden will do anything to keep his beloved angel safe. But with no choice except to sacrifice himself to prevent the apocalypse, he only has one option: a terrible betrayal of his own.

I realize I may have a thing for graduate students. And guys with wings. I admit nothing.

I also realize I have no idea how to sum up this post. But I'm happy, how about that?

And thank you for reading, as always, of course. ♥

taste_is_sweet: (Bad Decisions)
The longer I don't post, the harder it is to think anyone might want to read any of my ridiculousness. You know how it is. (Or maybe you don't, in which case you are awesome.)

But! I do have some nifty stuff to mention, so I figure I should actually, you know, mention it. So here goes:

Dreamspinner Press, my favorite online purveyor of fine quality gay romance, is offering 50% off all of their in-stock paperbacks for the month of April! This includes my novel Black Hawk Tattoo, which is pretty great.
BlackHawkTattoo_FBThumb

I also have a new novella coming out in the beginning of May (I know I've mentioned it before but it's still totally \o/), which I'll talk about more once I have the cover design. It's called Aiden's Angel because it has an angel in it, in case you were wondering if the title was a coincidence. It is not.

Another cool thing is that I'm going to the Romantic Times Booklovers Convention (May 12 - 17)! It's in Dallas, and it looks like it'll be a lot of fun. I'm also nervous because I'll have to actually talk to people about how I have a novella out.

Any of my flisties going to be there? I'd love to meet up with you. :D

Last but not least, on the fanish side, Spring Sign Ups are open for [livejournal.com profile] intoabar! I freaking love this community--where else can you have Bucky Barnes meet Applejack the Pony? Nowhere else, that's where. I've already signed up (they close April 5, Best-Beloveds, so get in on it!), and I can almost guarantee that my entry this year will have an even less likely pairing. I can't wait. :D

Never heard of them? Of course you haven't!
Obscure Fandoms FTW!

taste_is_sweet: (Joy)
I have fun and happy news to share, O Best-Beloveds. Attend whilst I explain.

My awesome internet buddy Sarah Madison (or [livejournal.com profile] sarah_madison) has a new book out!

Actually, it's been out for at least two weeks now, but I literally forgot to post anything last week, for reasons I'll explain in a moment. But first let me enthuse about Walk a Mile.

Click Me!

I enjoyed the prequel, Unspeakable Words very much, so I'm extremely excited to find out what's going to happen to the characters in Walk a Mile. What I especially loved in UW was how imaginatively and unflinchingly Sarah wrote about telepathy--as in, it would suck. John Flynn is the accidental and unwilling telepath, and in UW I was cringing on his behalf pretty much every time she described what was happening to him. Imagine not even being able to know if anything you feel is true, or just your partner's wishful thinking--it'd be hell. But reading about it being hell was awesome.

Basically, the emotional H/C was off the hook in Unspeakable Words. I'm very much looking forward to more of the same, as well as having some of the questions raised by the prequel answered.

So you should totally buy both books. Just saying. ;)

And now, as promised, is the reason I forgot to post last week.

Back in August, I sent a novella to Dreamspinner, because DSP is my boo. DSP's turnaround time for submissions is no more than eight weeks. They are really, really good about this, but eight weeks is still eight weeks. The last day of the eight weeks would've been tomorrow, and by the time last Monday rolled around I was so fucking incredibly stressed I could barely function. Which apparently included remembering I'd intended to post about Sarah Madison's new novel to LJ. Luckily she's not just talented but also very understanding of authorly freakouts. :D

And then on Friday, I found out that Dreamspinner is going to publish my novella! \o/ Aiden's Angel will come out between May and June, 2015. I'll post more about it as the release date nears. :D

Congratulations, Sarah! (And me!)
