No one will read your tweets unless they follow you, but like LJ, they can look them up and read them if they know your name unless your entire twitter account is locked.

Once you add people, you can put them in lists that allow you to open just that page of people at a time--which is nice when you start to follow a lot of people. For example, I have a list for celebrities, one for friends, one for DSP authors, etc. Helps if I want to check out what my friends are doing but don't want to wade through a 100 people promoting their latest novel, etc. :-)
