Any of my Flisties out there with a sci-fi or fantasy novel ready to go?
Harper Voyager to Accept Unagented Manuscripts for Two Weeks
I don't think I can take advantage of this--I have an agent, and he couldn't sell the one manuscript I had finished. Not to mention that it's the same novel I realized kind of sucks.
So unfortunately, no. Probably not for me. But I'm happy to pass on the opportunity. :D

Have you seen any of the postings about

On the other hand, if the digital + print arms of HarperCollins talk to each other, it might end up being a good way to get an "in" at the company -- if one were able to, say, establish a good working relationship with a HarperCollins editor. So it's certainly not a total wash. I just wish they were more up-front about their contract terms, and it makes me really uncomfortable that the site is all "Yay! Opportunity!" without giving details.
(Pfft, deleted and reposted because I accidentally replied to the entire post rather than your comment. *facepalm*)

I still have a feeling that you've got the right of it--that HC is going for people they can exploit for little to no money to establish their own ebook line. But yes, it might be a good way in.
OTOH, if they're not offering advances or much in the way of royalties, you might as well self-publish. At least you get a larger percentage. :)
