Boots or Hearts (Round Two entry for the brigits_flame December Writing Contest)

The theme this week was 'Chaos'. The title comes from a song of the same name by The Tragically Hip, one of the greatest Canadian bands to ever grace my homeland. It also has a lyric I've wanted to use as an epigraph for about four years, but have never ever managed it. This isn't that lyric, because the Universe delights in mocking me. It's a different one.

I realized while I was writing this that I've got characters crying two weeks in a row. I feel another unintended theme coming on. Go, me.

Isn't anyone going to help me procrastinate, here?

I have been reduced to checking out my friends' friends lists at random, people! Don't you understand that this scene is KILLING ME AND I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO THINK ABOUT IT?

I think I am one sentence away from being able to gleefully move everyone to a lab (I feel like an usher at a wedding--this way, please! The bride and groom are being photographed. Dinner will be served in the Fantasia room). But yes, if I can get them to the lab, I will be that much closer to finishing this. And dear Lord, how I do want this finished. And I know I'm not the only one.

But I have no idea what that sentence will be, aside from an absurdly 50s situation comedy-esque, "let's go and have a look, shall we?" And that is just too horrible to contemplate.

My cat is trying to be helpful by having crawled onto my left arm and is now curled up there purring, and possibly contemplating nibbling on my fingers. While this is making it difficult to type, it's not what I was hoping for as a distraction.
