I have scars on my left arm from testing out my new Leatherman last year. I lightly dragged it across my skin. Blood didn't well up or anything, just thin white lines. No pain. Nothing.

Next day I was going backpacking with a friend. I got out of bed and looked at my arms and was horrified. I looked like I'd been attacked by the tree branch monster. No, I couldn't have just done it once. I had at least ten lines of scabs in various directions.

How the hell do you explain to someone that you weren't trying to hurt yourself, but were just curious and wanted to play with a new toy when you shrug out of your jacket because it's hot and they can see it all up your arm. I have scars from this!

I felt like the biggest dumbass.

So, what I'm saying is I get it. :)
