"Homoerotic greeting card?" she said in lousy Quebecois, "I don't know what you're talking about."

Nothing like realizing three hours after your rather conservative, definitely homoskittish and practicing Catholic parents-in-law have already settled into the guest room where you keep your various action figures that you forgot to put away

Oops.

If I'm really lucky, neither of them noticed the very large picture of John and Rodney kissing while Rodney is handcuffed to a wall. Or they didn't think that the action figures were actually kissing. Or that there were handcuffs. Or something. Yeah.

Y'know, homoskittishness is not exactly a sensibility that you should feel you have to nuture. And this isn't a particularly offensive card (if it were hard-core porn, that'd be problematic), but if they're so conservative that (toy)guy-guy kissing is going to send them over the edge, there's not a whole lot you can do to make 'em love you.

I appreciate your sentiments, but it was really more of a question of my avoiding embarrassment all 'round. :) And they actually do seem to love me quite a bit--we just don't share quite as many values as I'd like, but they've been extremely hands-off when it comes to the things they might not agree with. In fact, my Dad gave me much more of a hard time about my son not being circumcised than they ever gave my husband about our son not being Christened. In fact I don't think they ever mentioned it at all.
