I know exactly what you mean! I have the whole "Shrine" wall surrounding my computer and then I had the book cover for UW on the wall---and forgot they were all there when I brought Mr. Fixit through to the bedroom to fix the space heater. *facepalm*

Hee. Yes! Yes, I can completely sympathize with that! I wonder if Mr. Fixit even noticed, or--and more likely--if your wall was tame compared to some things he's probably seen....

Actually, considering their background, they are surprisingly live-and-let-live. I know for example that my mother in law wanted Dom and I to get married in a church, but she only ever mentioned it once (to my husband, in passing I think), and has never made me feel anything less than welcome. :)

Y'know, homoskittishness is not exactly a sensibility that you should feel you have to nuture. And this isn't a particularly offensive card (if it were hard-core porn, that'd be problematic), but if they're so conservative that (toy)guy-guy kissing is going to send them over the edge, there's not a whole lot you can do to make 'em love you.

I appreciate your sentiments, but it was really more of a question of my avoiding embarrassment all 'round. :) And they actually do seem to love me quite a bit--we just don't share quite as many values as I'd like, but they've been extremely hands-off when it comes to the things they might not agree with. In fact, my Dad gave me much more of a hard time about my son not being circumcised than they ever gave my husband about our son not being Christened. In fact I don't think they ever mentioned it at all.

I can see how you wouldn't want to offend the in-laws. Lord knows what the consequences would be.

I have to be careful what's on display because I never know when my 14 year old son will decide to walk in my room. I don't think any kid wants to know about their mum's porn. (even though I'm sure he has some of his own on his laptop or phone).

I completely agree with you on the mom's porn stuff, but may I say awesome for you that you don't bug him about his. I hope he knows what kind of a give that privacy and respect is from a parent.

I figure there's a difference between trying to protect your kids and just being mean. I know I can trust my son not to copy any dumb things he sees on youtube so there's no need to censor his stuff any more.

I'd stay out of his room too, but his dirty clothes haven't learned how to walk to the laundry basket on their own yet!
