Okay, this is why I don't watch 24

The hero Jack Bauer is giving one of his cohorts--Bill, I think--a pep talk so he can go torture somebody.

Apparently, not actually being willing to shock someone with so much electricity that they bleed from the ears and are at risk of being paralyzed is not only weak, but un-American.

Um.

Things that make me wish I still had my own study, instead of the house having a guest room. (By which I mean that I had somewhere else I could hide when my darling husband watches shows like this, instead of the bedroom.)

But, Jack Bauer is the absolute embodiment of America! He's tough. He doesn't put up with bullshit. He survives when he logically shouldn't. And what's more, this is justice we're talking about here, and there is no country more just than America. Of course disobeying an order from Jack is un-American -- the man is America. If it's good enough for Jack, it's good enough for you and me.

/unfair implications

Is it plausible to one corner of the guest room into a study?

I find that show to be pornographic violence. Watching an actor graphically portray torture just hits my buttons and makes me feel voyeuristic and defiled. My personal views on torture aside, I get no enjoyment from watching other people suffer.

I've never liked that show for mostly the type of reason that you state above, but I think once I heard that it was Cheney's favorite show and...well...'nuff said! :)

I don't get 24. Really, I don't. But then I don't get a lot of the obsession with a lone hero single-handedly saving the world with his faithful dog, either, and that seems to be roughly the same category.
