That might be a personal record.

I just had someone die horribly in the novel I'm writing. On page six. Of a fantasy novel. At least it wasn't a main character. And I'm probably going to kill someone else by page ten.

I thought I'd share because I'm a little shocked that my attempt at having something exciting after a history!yay! prologue ended up with death and mayhem about three pages into chapter one.

Yay?

*\o/* I've killed characters in the first chapter myself. Sometimes they just no longer serve a purpose and there's no other way to get rid of them. And sometimes it adds drama and like, thrills and stuff. *scratches head*

Now get back to writing! ;-)

Either it was necessary for the plot - or you need chocolate. Right now.

[personal profile] hoktauri 2012-07-06 10:10 pm (UTC)(link)
But everyone always needs chocolate. :-D

*snort*

This made me LOL! I have visions of editors (sitting on clouds like the Greek gods on Olympus) going, "OMG, send an emergency ration of chocolate to TAS NOW!!" and hordes of flying monkeys making strafing runs with chocolate...

My mind is a weird place when I'm overheated and won't eat because it is too dang hot to do so.

Hah! That will see who's awake and paying attention! :-)

[identity profile] mckaysmonkey.livejournal.com 2012-07-06 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Flying monkeys huh? I like it ;-)

I thought you might! :-)

Hee! You made me laugh, but I do know just how hard you can be on your characters. You've shocked me more than once in SGA fanfics. Still, you're an amazing writer, so I say you GO, girl. ;)

*twirls you*

[identity profile] taste-is-sweet.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
lol I'm all for the thrills and stuff! And yes, more writing would be good. ::eyes miserable wordcount guiltily::

[identity profile] taste-is-sweet.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Weelll, it wasn't exactly necessary. ::cough:: But, like [livejournal.com profile] hoktauri said, it added drama and, like, thrills and stuff. ::nods firmly::

[identity profile] taste-is-sweet.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe I'll have some chocolate later. :)

Have you been able to eat yet? O_O

[identity profile] taste-is-sweet.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Heh. Well, not the dead guy. :)

[identity profile] taste-is-sweet.livejournal.com 2012-07-07 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you very much. :D That was a lovely compliment!

The dead guy is just a generic soldier dude, however. A less generic soldier dude will be dead by the end of the chapter, however. But I am definitely going to stomp a bit on the protagonists later. But they'll all live, actually. :) (Amazing, I know.)

LOL - sending you chocolate and wine by express *g*

Oh yes, the problem is I eat nothing all day, and then as soon as the sun goes down, I start. I don't stop until bedtime, which is not great for my waistline, you know... *sigh*

[identity profile] natsuko1978.livejournal.com 2012-07-10 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
I am suddenly reminded why I've never read any of "Song of Ice and Fire" - my good friend and fellow fantasy-reader David told me "Oh, BTW, don't get... attached to any of the characters. Okay?"

I am still spitting chips at Karen Miller for killing my favourite character.

But deaths of soldier dudes I can probably live with.

(Why do I find it so easy to be cruel to Sherlock and John, or Rodney or John S. etc etc and so difficult to be cruel to my OCs in Power Absolutes???)

Good luck, BB.

Well, for me at least it's better than imagining you wasting away to nothing! :) I hope the awful heatwave goes away soon as promised.

How are you doing, by the way? Any news?

[identity profile] taste-is-sweet.livejournal.com 2012-07-10 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Hee! Yes, yes it was. The beginning of more death! Bwa. ;->

[identity profile] taste-is-sweet.livejournal.com 2012-07-10 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, thank you. :D

[identity profile] taste-is-sweet.livejournal.com 2012-07-10 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
I made the mistake of getting attached to characters in the first book, only to find out that they didn't even make it to the second. Apparently by the fifth book everyone's dead, so maybe the story continues with cockroaches. I guess I'll find out from the series... ::g::

I think it's always easier to be cruel to canon characters in fanfic because we aren't the ones who created them in the first place. I think the added investment with the original characters makes it harder to hurt them, at least permanently. :) And of course most of the time there's also the comfort of knowing the characters survive in the show or movie. (Except for the ones who don't...)

Yeah, Soldier Dude's death is both sudden and anonymous, so I don't think anyone will feel bad about it. :) Except me, a little bit. :)

Your icon made me giggle!

The jet stream has decided to dip in our direction and it is much cooler this morning with some desperately needed rain. It means I need to re-arrange the order in which I do things today, but that's okay. :-)
