That might be a personal record.
I just had someone die horribly in the novel I'm writing. On page six. Of a fantasy novel. At least it wasn't a main character. And I'm probably going to kill someone else by page ten.
I thought I'd share because I'm a little shocked that my attempt at having something exciting after a history!yay! prologue ended up with death and mayhem about three pages into chapter one.
Yay?

This made me LOL! I have visions of editors (sitting on clouds like the Greek gods on Olympus) going, "OMG, send an emergency ration of chocolate to TAS NOW!!" and hordes of flying monkeys making strafing runs with chocolate...
My mind is a weird place when I'm overheated and won't eat because it is too dang hot to do so.

The dead guy is just a generic soldier dude, however. A less generic soldier dude will be dead by the end of the chapter, however. But I am definitely going to stomp a bit on the protagonists later. But they'll all live, actually. :) (Amazing, I know.)

I am still spitting chips at Karen Miller for killing my favourite character.
But deaths of soldier dudes I can probably live with.
(Why do I find it so easy to be cruel to Sherlock and John, or Rodney or John S. etc etc and so difficult to be cruel to my OCs in Power Absolutes???)
Good luck, BB.

How are you doing, by the way? Any news?

I think it's always easier to be cruel to canon characters in fanfic because we aren't the ones who created them in the first place. I think the added investment with the original characters makes it harder to hurt them, at least permanently. :) And of course most of the time there's also the comfort of knowing the characters survive in the show or movie. (Except for the ones who don't...)
Yeah, Soldier Dude's death is both sudden and anonymous, so I don't think anyone will feel bad about it. :) Except me, a little bit. :)

The jet stream has decided to dip in our direction and it is much cooler this morning with some desperately needed rain. It means I need to re-arrange the order in which I do things today, but that's okay. :-)
